 Day 6
What a difference a day makes!

ROUTE: Manchester NH to Sanford ME DISTANCE: 66 miles WINDS: NW 5-10 until we finished then they picked up near 30 by evening.
WEATHER: Rain showers...mild temperatures. TERRAIN: Hilly TOTAL CLIMBING: 3500 feet

DAILY DOINGS: After a perfect fall day yesterday, our luck finally ran out today as we had rain showers pretty much from departure and then all day.  It did let up a time or two and it was never heavy until after we got off the road when it poured about dinner time.  The color was brilliant in some areas but taking photos today was a waste of time as there wasn't enough light to process the shots and it was too wet anyway.  Suffice it to say we enjoyed the color in spite of the wet conditions.  Luckily, the temperature was on the mild side so it wasn't miserable.  The winds are picking up as I type this and we're hoping it doesn't blow the leaves off the trees tonight.  We're supposed to have winds of 25-30 tomorrow...slightly behind us which is nice, but most of the foliage may be on the ground tomorrow...we'll see.

We're winding down our trip and the staff is winding down our year.  It's been a good one and we're hoping for a successful day tomorrow...everyone in safely; that's our motto.  See you tomorrow.

PS:  Thanks to Ride the East alumni rider Fred McGarry and his wife Penny who met us at the SAG and brought delicious cookies.

DID I SAY THAT?:  "I needed a 'greatgranny' gear today."

"It isn't going to rain today."

"I didn't walk any of the hills today, but I could have walked up them faster."

"Did you see the Highland Cattle?"
"No, they smarter than we were...they wouldn't be out in weather like this."

DAILY DUH:  Goes to two of our navigators today...one goes to Amy who followed Mac on a wrong turn.  "I knew the cue said straight, but we were making such good time."  And the other goes to Mac who followed Karen through a turn marked by a monument that Karen failed to see.  After Karen figured she'd missed the turn, Mac volunteered the info that they had passed the monument already.  "I saw it back there," he said.  I guess they were making pretty good time too.

DAILY DIGITAL DELIGHTS

This resident took decorating for Halloween even a little past overkill.

This Comfort Inn was minus a few shower caps this morning...stylish don't you think?

This photo doesn't do any justice to the brilliant color in this scene.

It's wet, but everyone was all smiles, especially when the service station was handing out free hot chocolate.  Guess they thought anyone who was pedaling in this weather needed a boost.

Hey, what's Mike doing up in that field?  Oh, just taking a photo.

See, those shower caps fit right in with cycling attire.

Cute little house on the route.

A little rain can't dampen that smile.
