DAY'S OVERVIEW:
Great day to ride a bike...early morning sun rise and cool temperatures greeted
us as we loaded the luggage on our way to another longish day in the saddle.
It promised to be an up and down day and no one was disappointed...we got just
that. I think by day's end, there were some sore quads to deal with.
I was in the van today wishing I was riding my bike...I like this terrain.
The normal day around here is, it's easier to get a bike through these areas
than to drive a vehicle. Haven't really put my finger on why that is yet,
but it seems to be the case.
All day long we rode through lots of small towns all seemingly out of a Norman Rockwell painting and just bustling with activity. When I asked the riders at rap how their day went, there was a resounding GREAT! The terrain was challenging to say the least, but the scenery all day was quite impressive. Sorry I didn't get too many great photos today to show the beautiful day we had, but it's hard to get a good riding photo since there's no place for me to pull off and when I do get a place, it's tree lined and I can't get a good shot of anything but a tree. The light is also challenging with all the trees around and the light rays glistening through the branches. It looks impressive but it doesn't record well on the camera.
Just
before the first SAG we came upon a reservoir that provided several photo ops
and almost everyone stopped to take in the views. I had visions of sitting
in a boat with a fishing pole, but for some reason, I couldn't find any bait.
Then I was snapped out of my dream world when someone said I had a tandem
missing. Evidently, Dave and Dana on their trusty tandem had missed the
turn to the lake and packed in some bonus miles. In trying to make up
time, they rode right past the lunch SAG...Craig hoped on his trusty steed
(bike) and went chasing them to bring them back. You know how hard it is
to catch a tandem when it's in full bore? Good job Craig. But
wait...If they are riding a tandem, isn't there a navigator in the back?
OK...maybe we need to give a map reading seminar to the DČ Stoker.
It
was a good day all around albeit a long day for the back end. The final
rider got in at 6:15...a long day indeed. As far as my day, it was a bit
boring except for the great views and brief interruptions to try to find lost
riders. But don't worry, boring is how I like it...boring means everyone
got in without any incidents...boring is great. Tomorrow we have a lot
shorter day of only 67 miles. I think I'll like another boring beautiful
day...think we'll load a bit later tomorrow...maybe 7:00 ish. We've got a
day in the country and we're coming into Pennsylvania...are there hills in
Pennsylvania? I guess we'll find out.
HEARD ON THE ROAD: Dave and Sandy have a tradition of allowing a two minute complaining session at 5 minutes to the hour. If they miss the time, then they have to wait until the next hour. When we were at the lunch SAG, Sandy, Dave, and Barbara were all jabbering at the same time...seems that there's not enough time to get in all their complaints like my feet hurt, my butt is sore, my legs are killing me, I'm tired, etc., unless they all talk at the same time. After laughing at the confusion, they forget what it was they were so intent on complaining about. At the end of the two minutes, they have to cut it off. It's a hoot if you can be near and get in your two cents worth.

Shane is always looking for a good deal and found a store any good cyclist should always check out. You never know when you'll need something for your tractor on a bike ride.
|
The riders won't ever go hungry as long as shopper Barb is around. We were at the lunch SAG long enough for her to get the daily shopping done before arriving at the motel.

Sara pulls Jeri and Kathi into lunch...just a short ride to a meal.
|
No big Snake Hill Roads to blow out a front tire today. Tom and Margaret were really truck'n on their spare front wheel. |
|
Mick made quick work of this little "knoll." The reward awaits just over the top...Yeeee Hawwwww!!!!
|
Not sure, but I think that is a dairy barn in the background...contented cow condos I reckon. |
