Fast South Ride

Riders enjoy the long lonely road into Tucumcari NM.

The road out of Mecca on the second day takes us through a beautiful, weathered canyon.  It's usually a hot day, but one of the most scenic on the ride.

On the 4th day, Don is but a blur as he stars up the first major climb on the trip...Yarnell Pass.

After all the climbing on Day 4, the riders are treated to a 20 mile scenic white knuckle descent into Jerome and Cottonwood.  Jenny was smokin' as she rode by my photo stop.

In the New Mexico desert we're not as high on the food chain as we are accustomed to being...here Paula's timing was impeccable as she pedaled by briskly during the precise moment the T-Rex was distracted.

The group celebrated the 1/2 way point across the US on their way to Chickasha OK...it's all downhill from here...

Finally, the riders get officially to the "East" as they cross the Mississippi River.  This day into Senatobia is a welcomed respite from the climbing we've had up to now and expected in the next few days.  Also, they enjoyed seeing Grits Trees for the first time...they were well into bloom this time of year.

The descent into Madris NM is an awesome sight...but you've got to stop to see it...when you are rolling, you need to watch the road.

The riders have to document every state we go into...even if we're so far out in the country that there isn't an "official" welcome sign.

The trip through the south provides a couple days of flat roads marked by the early growth of spring planting...corn, wheat, cotton, and rice fields.  Here, Stan and Sue ride by one of the irrigated rice fields.

The final celebration and Rachel pouring of the Pacific water into the Atlantic.  We all made it!

Some days on the long lonely roads across the desert, teamwork made the miles go by much easier.  Team Alabama shown here working together to master the headwinds into Tucumcari.  They were heard to say there's not as many trees out here compared to Alabama.
